Curriculum - Art
Curriculum Art Overview
At Overdale we place Art and Design high in our priorities and see it as in important part of our pupils’ entitlement to a broad and balanced curriculum.
Our art curriculum is carefully planned to ensure that children have access to all of the skills and statutory elements of the National Curriculum. We ensure that children have the opportunity to build upon the skills and knowledge learned in previous year groups whilst giving them the opportunity to research artists and create pieces of work that are diverse, engaging and imaginative . As well as regular cross-curricular art and design lessons, pupils also have opportunities to work on whole school projects and exhibit their work.
We believe that every art lesson should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and resilience to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. Pupils should also know how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and can contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation, both now and in the future.
