Welcome to Class 1S

In Year 1S, we are taught by Mrs Stewart and supported by Mrs Thomas and Mrs O Malley. Mrs Hemmingway teaches our RE and PSHE on a Tuesday afternoon. Mrs Thomas leads our phonic and reading interventions on an afternoon.

Reading is a fundamental skill that we develop throughout Year 1. Our Little Wandle phonics lessons start In 9am in the morning, followed by guided reading sessions where we focus on decoding, prosody and comprehension each week. Each week, children take home the book that they have read at school to practise their fluency with an adult. Children also have access to a wider reading diet in the form of our class Lending Library, where children can choose a book to take home to read for pleasure. To support this your child will need their book bag and reading log in school every day please.

We use exciting and innovative ways to support your children throughout their year 1 journey. Our curriculum is diverse, engaging and creative.

Our PE is on a Friday– all children need a kit in school and earrings removed for this please.

We like to use Class Dojo to keep parents informed about any important information and to share the exciting things we get up to in Year 1! You can also post pictures into your child’s portfolio so we can see the exciting learning and fun you have at home and out and about.
