Year 1 Class
Welcome to Class 1W
In Year 1W, we are taught by Miss Wilson and supported by Mrs Dewsbury. Reading and writing are fundamental skills that we continue to develop throughout Year 1. We start our day with a Little Wandle Phonics lesson, and this is followed by a guided reading session. Each week, the children will bring home an ability-matched book. We encourage you to support your child’s reading journey by listening to them read as often as possible; reading the same book multiple times helps to develop children’s confidence and fluency with a text. Children will also have access to a wide range of topic books within our classroom and our class borrow box books. We ask that book bags are in school every day please.
In 1W, we work as a team and use our positive ‘can do’ attitudes to strive to achieve our very best! The children are exposed to a diverse, engaging and creative curriculum and often work in collaboration with their peers across a lot of our lessons. Children in our class are respectful and show that they can listen to and value others’ ideas and opinions. We also build upon children’s independence and resilience.
We like to use Class Dojo to keep parents informed about any valuable information and to share the exciting things we get up to in 1W! You can also post pictures into your child’s portfolio so we can see the exciting learning and fun you have at home and when out and about.
